In a period of economic austerity and political instability, the situation for minorities in Europe is becoming more precarious. Nationalism and xenophobia seem to be on the rise in European politics. And for the first time since the Second World War, European borders have been forcibly changed on the argument of protecting minorities. What are the challenges facing such minorities in Europe today, and to what extent are minorities used as a tool to achieve other domestic or foreign policy goals?
