The most dangerous threat to international order since 1945
On 24 February 2022, Russia began a military invasion of Ukraine, in a significant escalation of the ongoing Russo-Ukrainian conflict that started in 2014 and initially focused on the status of Crimea and parts of the Donbas in the South East of the country.
It is the most significant and most dangerous military conflict in Europe since World War II, with serious threats of a nuclear war. So far, over three million Ukrainians have fled the country; the invasion has also caused the largest refugeecrisis in Europe since 1945.
