A talk by Dennis Horak, Canada’s Chargé d’Affaires to the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Dennis Horak joined the Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in 1987. After assignments in Stockholm, Sweden and Warsaw, Poland, he returned to Ottawa to work in the UN Division and was later appointed Deputy Director of the newly created Peace-building and Democratic Development Division. In 1996, he was assigned to the Canadian Embassy in Riyadhm, Saudi Arabia as Political/Economic Program Manager, with cross accreditation to Yemen, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE. He returned to Ottawa in 1999 as Deputy Director of the Middle East Division, responsible for Iraq, Iran and Egypt. From 2002-2006 he was assigned to the Canadian High Commission in London as a Political Counsellor after which he returned to Ottawa as Director of the Gulf and Maghreb Division in the Department of Foreign Affairs. He was appointed Canada’s Chargé D’Affaires to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the summer of 2009.
Mr. Horak will provide a brief overview of the domestic and foreign policy situation as seen from Tehran, covering current domestic challenges and international and regional aspirations and perceptions.
