Randall Germain will discuss some of the results from two archival trips to look at the papers of EH Carr and RG Collingwood, focusing on their conception of history and historical reconstruction and its possible utility for International Political Economy (IPE). This is very much a work-in-progress, and will form part of his book on the intellectual history of the idea of history in debates on IPE.
Randall Germain is Professor of Political Science at Carleton University, Canada. His research examines the political economy of global finance and theoretical developments in IPE. Among his publications are The International Organization of Credit (Cambridge 1997) and Global Politics and Financial Governance (Palgrave 2010). From 2009 until 2012 he was Chair of the Department of Political Science at Carleton University.
