Señor Moratinos has been Spain’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation since April 2004, shortly after being elected as a member of Congress. Prior to entering politics, he was a professional diplomat, serving in several posts including Spain’s missions in Yugoslavia, Morrocco and Israel, in addition to senior positions in the foreign ministry in Madrid. Between 1996 and 2003, he was the European Union’s Special Envoy for the Middle East Peace Process.
