President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner of Argentina faces the last 20 months of her second term in office. Having recovered more strongly than expected from the deep recession of 2001-2002, Argentina still has not taken full advantage of the global commodity boom and now faces an economic slowdown. The path to the 2015 presidential election is full of uncertainties, yet the future will be important both for Argentina and for the region.

Gabriel Puricelli is a policy and economic analyst in the Canadian embassy in Argentina. He is also the coordinator for the International Policy Program at the Public Policy Laboratory of Buenos Aires. His work has been published extensively in Argentine media, and he has been an invited panellist on issues ranging from the rights of working youth to economic and political integration in Mercosur.
