Presented by CIPS as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations
Giselle Carino will speak about the recent historic abortion reform in Argentina that has inspired organizations and activists working for women’s health and rights. Considering her more than 20 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health and rights in Latin America and the Caribbean, she will discuss the political landscape as the Green Wave feminist movement from Argentina sweeps across the region.
Speaker:
Giselle Carino is the CEO for IPPFWHR (International Planned Parenthood Federation Western Hemisphere Region), a progressive feminist ecosystem of 26 and growing local partner organizations largely from the global South, who share a common mission: to ensure universal access to sexual and reproductive health care; eliminate violence against women, girls and gender-diverse people; provide sex education; and fight for sexual and reproductive justice by dismantling structural sexism, racism, and other forms of oppression.
A political scientist and activist from Argentina, high impact leader and change maker, Giselle’s mission to mobilize change in gender equality across the global South is evidenced in her twenty-year commitment to forging connections, amplifying voices, and establishing systems to more effectively meet the complex intersecting needs of women and girls of all ages, sectors, and political affiliations in Latin America and the Caribbean. Under her leadership, IPPFWHR has played a key role in championing critical policy reforms across Latin America and the Caribbean and at the U.N, and in developing innovative business models that integrate advocacy, service provision, education and research that expand access to sexual and reproductive health programs for women, girls and gender-diverse people who need them the most. Giselle is a regular columnist with El Pais in Spanish, Portuguese and English. She holds degrees from the University of El Salvador in Buenos Aires, Argentina and New York University.
