Nuclear power is often touted as the only feasible response to rapidly growing global energy demands coupled with the threat of runaway climate change. But do the benefits of nuclear energy outweigh the risks inherent in the technology? Can nuclear technology help Canada to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions? This presentation confronts the political economic and geographical context underlying these questions, and examines the future potential place of nuclear power given contemporary geopolitical realities.
Ryan Katz-Rosene is a SSHRC Post-Doctoral Fellow at the University of Ottawa’s Department of Political Studies. His current research tackles the ‘nuclear energy/climate change policy debate’. He lives on a small organic family farm in Cantley, QC.
