Join Dr Der-yuan Maxwell Wu as he discusses recent developments in Taiwan-US relations and outlines several challenges for Taiwan, such as shifting political trends, the famous “phone call,” generational changes, and cross-strait relations with China.
Dr Der-yuan Maxwell Wu is an Associate Professor in the International Doctoral Program in Asia Pacific Studies (IDAS), College of Social Sciences, National Chengchi University (NCCU) in Taipei. He has served as Head of the China Politics Division at NCCU’s Institute of International Relations. His research includes foreign policy, city diplomacy, environmental policy, international cooperation, human rights diplomacy, and Canada-China/Taiwan relations.
Professor Wu received his PhD in Political Science from Carleton University in 2001 and was a postdoctoral fellow at the York-U of T Joint Centre for Asia-Pacific Studies. He has been a visiting scholar at Georgetown University, the University of Ottawa, and Carleton University. Before his PhD, he was an officer in the Department of International Organization, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Taiwan (ROC).
