The Centre for International Policy Studies is very pleased to welcome Sandra Safi Bashengezi, a Congolese journalist, trainer and filmmaker, who will join us for a discussion on journalism and denouncing sexual violence in the Democratic Republic of the Congo.

At 29 years old, Sandra Safi Bashengezi is a Congolese journalist, trainer and filmmaker, living in Bukavu in eastern DRC. Co-founder and director of the Technical School of Journalism, ETJ, Sandra also coordinates the programs of the Journalists for the Promotion of Democracy and Human Rights organization, JPDDH.
She is actively engaged in the promotion of human rights and particularly the rights of women and children. In 2012, she was awarded the “JDH Prize” for best radio report on human rights, offered by the NGO Journalists for Human Rights, JDH. In 2019, she directed the short film “Survivante” to denounce the impunity of the actors of rape and sexual violence in the DRC and to demand justice for the victims. She is a mother of five daughters.
