Presented by CIPS and the University Research Chair in Global Political Thought
Nicolas Guilhot‘s presentation will focus on a number of questions: What is “globalism”? Why does it crop up in most conspiracy theories? How does it relate to other representations of international order, from notions of “world system” to “liberal internationalism” or “global governance”? The talk will explore the origins of globalism, explain why it is central to the conspiracist imagination, and critically assess the distinction between international relations theory and conspiracy theory.
Nicolas Guilhot is a research professor (directeur de recherche) at the CNRS, Paris. He is visiting professor at CUNY, New York during the Spring Semester. His work focuses on the history of international thought and of political concepts. He is currently writing a book on conspiracy theories
