Douglas Bland is Professor and holds the Chair in Defence Management Studies at the Queen’s University School of Policy Studies. His research concentrates on the fields of defence policy making and management at the national and international level, the organization and functioning of defence ministries, and civil-military relations. His books include The Administration of Defence in Canada, 1947-84; Chiefs of Defence: Government and the Unified Command of the Canadian Armed Forces; and Canada Without Armed Forces?
