Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has ushered in a period of exceptional geo-political tensions and given rise to reckless threats of nuclear weapon use. Is the 77-year nuclear “taboo” likely to be broken and what are the implications for the global nuclear non-proliferation and disarmament regime of these developments? What role can Canada play in de-escalating nuclear brinkmanship and reviving arms control and disarmament diplomacy? Paul Meyer, this year’s recipient of the Distinguished Achievement Award from Canadians for a Nuclear Weapons Convention (CNWC), will speak to these themes and engage in discussion of them.
Guest Speaker:
Paul Meyer, Adjunct Professor of International Studies, Simon Fraser University, a Director of the Canadian Pugwash Group and former Canadian Ambassador for Disarmament
