The media this summer has been filled with images of desperation and drowning in the Mediterranean as refugees flee violence in the Middle East seeking to get to Europe. In this presentation professor guild will examine these developments from the perspective of the securitization of Europe border controls and the impact on refugees in the region.
Elspeth Guild is a professor of European Migration Law at the Centre for Migration Law, Radboud University Nijmegen, Solicitor at the law firm Kingsley Napley LLP in London and Visiting Professor at the London School of Economics. Professor Guild holds a Ph.D. in sociology of law from Radboud University Nijmegen (1999) and is the author of numerous books and articles on the development of the EU, particularly in the area of justice and home affairs and the creation of an area of freedom, security and justice.
