In recent months, the Middle East has witnessed a series of extraordinary developments, ranging from the growing crises in Egypt and Syria to the start of a new  round of  US-sponsored peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.   What is the significance of these developments and what are their likely implications?  Who are the key local actors, and how are they responding to a changing political landscape? What roles do international actors play in the Middle East?  Are they likely to facilitate a peaceful resolution of conflicts in this troubled region?  And how do international responses to Middle East crises shape international norms—particularly the Responsibility to Protect norm?
