On October 12, the day before this panel, the United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to vote on Canada’s bid for a seat on the Security Council. Four veteran UN hands will discuss the outcome and implications of the vote. If Canada is elected, what should it aim to accomplish during its two year term? If Canada is not elected, what are the implications for our foreign policy?
Yves Fortier is the Chairman Emeritus and Senior Partner at Ogilvy Renault and former Canadian Ambassador to the UN.
Louise Fréchette is Distinguished Fellow at the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI), former Canadian Ambassador to the UN and former UN Deputy Secretary-General.
Paul Heinbecker is the inaugural director of the Centre for Global Relations, Governance and Policy at Wilfrid Laurier University, Distinguished Fellow at CIGI and former Canadian Ambassador to the UN.*
Allan Rock is President of the University of Ottawa and former Canadian Ambassador to the UN.
